Treatment Recovery & Aftercare

Everything you need to know before and after your appointment.

Looking after your skin after treatment is just as important as the treatment itself. Every client receives personalised aftercare advice during their appointment, this guide covers what to expect in general.

Because every treatment at SDK is tailored to your skin, your therapist's advice always takes priority if anything here differs from what you were told at your appointment.

Your aftercare is personalised

The information below is general guidance. Always follow the instructions given during your appointment, these take priority over anything online.

01

Skin Consultation

Consultations don't carry treatment aftercare in the usual sense. Any homecare or product changes recommended for you are given directly at your appointment, alongside your personalised plan.

02

Bespoke Skin Treatments

Applies to Express, Standard and Advanced Bespoke Skin Treatments.

What to expect

Steps in your session are chosen based on what your skin needs that day, so what happens afterward varies a little depending on what was included, anything from a double cleanse and mask through to extractions, dermaplaning or a mild peel. In general, your skin may feel brighter and smoother straightaway, with some mild redness or sensitivity that should settle within a few hours.

Recovery

  • Hands off, avoid touching, squeezing or picking at your skin.
  • Avoid makeup for 6 to 12 hours where possible, to let your skin breathe.
  • Hold off on scrubs, acids or retinol for 48 hours.
  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, swimming or hot showers for 48 hours, lukewarm water is fine.
  • Avoid direct sun and sunbeds for 48 hours, and apply SPF daily regardless.

Things to avoid

Other facials, peels or advanced treatments for 48 hours.

When to contact us

If redness or sensitivity persists beyond what's expected, a cool damp compress can help, but get in touch if it doesn't settle or feels more intense than discussed at your appointment.

For long-term results, these treatments work well on a roughly 4-week rhythm.

03

Pigmentation Correction

Your Pigmentation Correction appointment is tailored to your skin on the day, the techniques used (which may include peels, microneedling, or a calmer barrier-focused approach depending on what your skin needs) determine your aftercare, rather than there being one fixed protocol for this appointment.

What to expect

Your therapist will confirm exactly what aftercare applies to your session before you leave, based on what was actually done.

Recovery

Follow the relevant section for whichever technique was used in your treatment, Microneedling, Chemical Peels, or the general facial-style guidance under Bespoke Skin Treatments, plus any additional instructions given at your appointment.

SPF, always

Whichever technique is used, daily SPF afterward matters more for this treatment than almost any other on our menu, since the entire goal is reducing pigmentation, and unprotected sun exposure directly works against that.

When to contact us

If anything feels more intense or lasts longer than discussed at your appointment, get in touch.

04

Microneedling

What to expect

Microneedling stimulates your skin's natural repair process through controlled micro-injury, encouraging new collagen and elastin and improving how well your skin absorbs products afterward. It's normal for skin to feel warm, tight and appear red, similar to sunburn, for 24 to 48 hours. Mild swelling or sensitivity may also occur but usually settles within a couple of days.

Recovery

  • Don't touch your face unless your hands are clean, for the first 48 hours.
  • Nothing on your skin for the first 24 hours except what's been provided to you. After that, switch to hydrating products only (hyaluronic acid serum or a gentle moisturiser) for 5 days.
  • Avoid active ingredients (retinol, acids, vitamin C, glycolic, AHA/BHA) for 5 to 7 days.
  • Avoid makeup for at least 24 hours.
  • Avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms or intense exercise for 48 hours, and no extreme heat like sunbeds for 7 days.
  • Apply SPF 30 to 50 daily, your skin will be more sensitive to UV, and sun exposure may cause pigmentation.
  • Drink at least 2 litres of water daily, and avoid alcohol for 24 hours to support recovery.

Things to avoid

No facial procedures, including injectables, in the treated area for 2 to 4 weeks.

When to contact us

If irritation feels beyond what's expected, or you're concerned about infection given the nature of this treatment, get in touch rather than waiting.

Microneedling works best as part of a course, sessions are usually spaced every 2 to 4 weeks for long-term results, paired with your personalised home skincare plan.

05

Chemical Peels

What to expect

Chemical peels resurface the skin using active solutions to improve cell turnover. It's normal for skin to feel warm, tight and appear red for 24 to 48 hours, with some dryness, flaking or mild peeling over the following days depending on the depth of the peel, this is part of the renewal process.

Recovery

  • Don't pick, scratch or peel any flaking skin, let it shed naturally.
  • Use only the repair cream provided for the first 24 hours, then switch to hydrating products only for 5 to 7 days.
  • Avoid active ingredients (retinol, acids, vitamin C, glycolic, AHA/BHA) for at least 7 days.
  • Avoid makeup for at least 24 to 48 hours.
  • Avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, sunbeds and strenuous exercise for 5 to 7 days.
  • Avoid scrubs, harsh cleansers or waxing for at least 7 days.
  • Apply SPF 30 to 50 daily, your skin will be more sensitive to UV and sun exposure may cause pigmentation.

Things to avoid

Other facials, microneedling or injectables in the treated area for 2 to 4 weeks.

When to contact us

If anything feels more intense or lasts longer than described above, reach out rather than waiting it out.

Chemical peels work best as part of a course, usually every 1 to 4 weeks depending on your goals, alongside your personalised home routine.

Within Chemical Peels

Green Peel

Green Peel has its own recovery profile, worth knowing in advance if you're booking this one specifically.

What to expect

Redness, sensitivity or warmth for 24 to 48 hours, similar to sunburn. A tingling or prickly sensation may persist for up to 24 hours. Dryness, flaking or mild peeling can occur 3 to 10 days post-treatment, with temporary tightness or itchiness as the skin regenerates.

Recovery

  • Don't touch, scratch or pick at peeling skin.
  • Nothing on your skin for the first 24 hours unless advised.
  • After 24 hours, use the Skin Repair Cream provided for at least 3 days. Avoid retinol, acids, vitamin C or exfoliants for 10 days.
  • Avoid makeup for 48 hours.
  • No saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga or heavy exercise for 7 days.
  • Avoid direct sun and sunbeds for 2 weeks, apply SPF 30 to 50 daily.

Things to avoid

Injectables, microneedling or other advanced facials in the treated area for 3 to 4 weeks.

A course of 3 Green Peels, spaced every 3 weeks, is recommended for best results, with maintenance peels every 8 to 12 weeks after that.

06

Body Treatments

These follow the same aftercare as their facial equivalents, applied to the treated area (neck, chest or back) rather than the face.

  • Neck & Chest Peel and Back Treatment, follow the Chemical Peels guidance above.
  • Advanced Back Peel Treatment, follow the Chemical Peels guidance above.
  • Green Peel (Back), follow the Green Peel guidance above, including the longer 3 to 10 day flaking window and the 2-week sun avoidance period.

The only practical difference from the facial versions is the area being cared for, the timings and restrictions are the same.

07

LED Light Therapy

LED has no downtime. It follows the same low-key aftercare pattern as the Bespoke facials above, mild redness or sensitivity, if any, settles within a few hours, with no extended recovery period to plan around. Normal activities, makeup and skincare can resume the same day unless you've also had a more active treatment (such as a peel or microneedling) alongside it, in which case follow that treatment's guidance instead.

08

Circadia Signature Facials

Applies to Beyond Botox, Charcoal Clarifying Detox and Oxygen RX.

  • No scrubs, acids or retinol for 48 hours.
  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, swimming or hot showers for 48 hours, lukewarm water only.
